ZDNET Highlights

  • YouTube TV now offers a dozen cheap subscription plans.
  • You can choose from sports, entertainment or news plans.
  • Each option saves between $5 and $20 per month.

If you only subscribe to YouTube TV for certain channels, like live sports, there’s a new option that can help you save some money.

The streaming TV service recently introduced a dozen different packages that are cheaper than the full-access plan — currently $83 per month. Instead of paying for everything, you can only pay for the channels you actually watch.

The announcement comes shortly after YouTube launched Premium Lite, a cheaper version of the paid service that lets you watch ad-free on YouTube as well as background play and download videos. It’s probably no coincidence that YouTube is offering flexible pricing as streaming services have become more expensive and users have a lot of choices.

Neither option offers particularly big savings, ranging from about $5 to $20 per month. However, if you’re a long-term customer, those months add up. And, you still get all the other YouTube TV benefits like unlimited DVR and multiview. Additionally, if you are a first-time customer, there is a slight discount on each plan.

Here are the plans available:

game plan ($65/month): The Sports plan gives you access to all major broadcasters as well as sports-specific networks like FS1 and NBC Sports Network, as well as all ESPN networks and ESPN Unlimited (a new service coming this fall that covers WWE, SEC, ACC and Big 12 football and basketball, as well as postseason events and studio shows).
