Former British Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi has joined Nigel Farage’s Reform UK and claimed Britain is “sick” as he becomes one of the biggest names to join the opposition party which is leading in the polls.

“You know in your heart that our wonderful country is sick,” he told a recovery news conference in central London.

Zahawi, who was born in Baghdad, made a fortune in business as the founder of pollster YouGov before his election as Tory MP for Stratford-upon-Avon in 2010.

He was dismissed from his role as Chairman of the Conservative Party by then Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in 2023 following the publication of a report on his tax affairs.

He previously served as Chancellor of the Exchequer until the end of Boris Johnson’s premiership in 2022.
