When you spent the first part of CES week looking at a massive Micro RGB TV and playing with a tri-foldable phone, you thought there was very little left to impress you. Then I picked up Ohsnap’s Amcon controller and I’ve been thinking about it ever since.

There are grips that extend on both sides to give you better ergonomics, a kickstand that keeps your phone upright if you decide to remove the top plate from the controller, and even a new $70 dock accessory that lets you mirror your phone’s screen to a monitor or TV to play games at a distance.

In many ways, the AmCon reminds me of the Nintendo Switch, except that this entire device can fit in your pocket or sleeve.

CES is a treasure trove of mysterious tech products, and for me the best has to be Work. You don’t need a fancy keynote to explain things or a celebrity guest appearance to get your attention. Give me a technique that solves the real problem and can be understood in a few seconds. No pretense, just work. In this case, it’s a pocketable controller that makes mobile gaming that much better.
