Your guide to what Trump’s second term means for Washington, business and the world
US President Donald Trump has invited Vladimir Putin to a “peace board” overseeing Gaza, the Kremlin said on Monday.
According to RIA Novosti, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russia is “studying all the details of the proposal” and “expects to discuss with Washington all the nuances”.
The apparent proposal suggests Trump is eager to maintain his warm ties with Putin, even as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine nears its fourth anniversary and Moscow takes a tough stance on the US-backed peace plan.
Washington has sent invitations to heads of state and government to join a “peace board”, which Trump will chair. According to the text of its charter, countries joining the board will serve a limited three-year term unless they contribute more than $1 billion within its first year of operation.
The board will sit atop an advisory body that includes former British Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair, private equity boss Mark Rowen and the US President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
The US Embassy in Moscow did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
