Google is helping AI mode provide more personalized responses in search by allowing the chatbot to analyze your Gmail and Google Photos accounts. Following the launch of Gemini AI last week, “Personal Intelligence” Now instead of needing to manually create and adjust your preferences, AI mode is coming to tailor search results to your interests and daily life by gathering information from your emails and photos.
For example, Google says Personal Intelligence allows AI modes to suggest itineraries by referencing hotel bookings in your Gmail and vacation photos in Photos. If you take a lot of selfies with ice cream, it can generate recommendations for ice cream parlors. When using AI mode to shop online, it can prioritize products from brands you wear or have previously purchased.
Eligible Google AI Pro and AI Ultra customers can opt for Gmail and Google Photos connection for AI mode starting today. This update is being released as a feature in Google Labs in the US and is only available for personal Google Accounts. The rollout follows the introduction of personal intelligence into Gemini AI, which can tap into search and YouTube history along with Gmail and photos.
“Built with privacy in mind, AI Mode uses our most intelligent model, Gemini 3, and is not trained directly on your Gmail inbox or Google Photos library,” Robbie Stein, vice president of Google Search, said in the announcement. “Training is limited to limited information, such as specific signals and the model’s responses in AI mode, to improve functionality over time.”
Stein says that while personal intelligence can be helpful, internal testing reveals that “mistakes can be made.” AI Mode users can correct any inappropriate recommendations and provide feedback by following up or giving it a “thumbs down”.
