Software is becoming something you bring into existence
Coding is finally possible for the rest of us now that tools like Cloud Code turn plain English into working software

A man holds a smartphone displaying the logo of “Cloud”, an AI language model developed by Anthropic, with the company’s logo visible in the background.
Coding has its GarageBand moment, its Excel moment. A moment like 2004, when Apple made music production widely available. Or like 1985, when Microsoft eliminated the idea of paper spreadsheets that required an accountant to calculate each value by hand.
Enter Cloud Code, software created by AI company Anthropic for “vibe coding” — writing code with natural language. It’s not the first platform to try this, but it’s the first to make it successful anyone can do it Feeling.
Vibe coding platforms are abundant, and over the years, I’ve tried several platforms like Windsurf and Replit. I was impressed by what they could do but often got stuck on problems that better coders could easily solve. And creating websites that matched my expectations was challenging.

What makes Cloud Code different is the ease of use and speed of solving problems. I’ve built several websites with the latest version, and every time I encountered a problem, I described the problem and Cloud Code fixed it. I’ve used it through various interfaces, and the app “provides the most user-friendly experience formuggle” – People with no coding magic.
Naturally there is a rival. One cannot talk about cloud code without mentioning OpenAI’s codecs. OpenAI was the first company to popularize a large language model (LLM) that transformed plain-English instructions into code. GitHub’s Copilot launches in June 2021But it was built on Codex, which OpenAI had released that August.
A plot twist occurred in 2023: the codex, which had been in constant development, was shut down. an openai e-mail notification Encouraged developers to use GPT-3.5 instead. It seems that coding will be just one skill among many performed by AI systems.
That’s when Anthropic entered the race with a different enthusiasm. In March 2023 it introduced the cloud as a “trained model”.helpful, honest and harmless” Cloud could code, but the early praise wasn’t about fireworks; It was about feeling. Users liked that the exchanges “felt like natural conversations,” Autumn Besselman of Quora Anthropic said in a statement.
Only two months later, Anthropic announced This “expanded the cloud’s context window from 9K to 100K tokens,” which corresponded to approximately “75,000 words.” A context window is basically desk space that allows you to spread your code and documentation. When? Anthropic fed cloud complete novel the great Gatsby When changing one line, the model observed the change in 22 seconds.
Over the next two years, Claude’s coding skills improved dramatically. By the beginning of 2025, the use of AI in code was gaining popularity among noncoders, and in February former OpenAI researcher Andrzej Karpathy coined the term.vibe coding“
in may 2025 OpenAI relaunches Codex “as a cloud-based software engineering agent that can work on multiple tasks in parallel” and made it available in ChatGPT. According to this, it also made the Codex CLI open source, thereby “fostering greater developer goodwill.” techcrunchThananthropic, which issued a takedown notice to a developer who reverse-engineered the cloud code.
Tension was at its peak last August wired informed Anthropic claimed that OpenAI employees were using cloud code before the launch of GPT-5. Anthropic accordingly revoked access to OpenAI commercial termsWhich prevents customers from using the cloud to “build competing products”. An anthropological spokesperson said wired, “OpenAI’s own technical staff were also using our coding tools.”
As of January 2026, on X, Karpathy described “phase change in software engineeringAdmitting, “I’m actually programming mostly in English now,” while boris chernyAn Anthropic employee wrote, “Almost 100% of our code is written by Cloud Code + Opus 4.5.” according to Luck, An Anthropic spokesperson said Cloud Code now writes about 90 percent of its own code.
Although both Codex and Cloud Code are powerful, in my experience, Cloud Code easily creates faster websites, even quite complex websites that require interactive 3D presentations.
Memes have emerged that depict the joy of using it. People have cited “Cloudholism: The New Addiction of the Century“or claimed that”Cloud code is the opium of the permanent underclass“In terms of the software’s ability to take the pain out of hard work. And then there’s the beauty of its progress indicators – actions like crunching, moseying, read carefully, reticulated, disruptive And Excitement. When cloud code works, this is Fabulous Or Ambulatory. As silly as it is, it’s hard not to love.
