A reporter tried cooking real AI-generated dishes and the results are stomach-churning

The giants of the AI industry and their AI brothers are hell-bent on feeding everyone AI nonsense.

Most of us encounter these unrealistic monsters as assaults on our eyeballs: for example, the strange ticktock of anthropomorphic animals edging a white picket fence into existence, accidentally cannibalizing their own children, or anthropomorphic foodies sobbing before being boiled alive.

But it could be worse, an intrepid reporter found.

on mia mercado cut Dive deep into the culinary realm of AI-generated recipesAnd in this endeavor’s multiple-course-meal, he subjected himself to eating “literal AI slop” that he cooked himself, just to see if the instructions actually applied.

she found one on tiktok recipe video For cottage cheese breadsticks that was completely AI-generated, including voiceovers, the loud “crunch” of food, and physics-defying visuals.

“After mixing the mixed cheese with the eggs and mozzarella, I added the optional (???) garlic powder, salt, and pepper. The batter was loose, and my expectations were low,” Mercado wrote. “How will this pan of goop turn into twisted, breaded sticks?”

NARRATOR: They didn’t.

“It’s like an egg-shaped sheet filled with herbs,” Mercado lamented. “When I tried to fold the strips like in the original video, three of them fell apart. They tasted like a weird omelette.” Their final rating: “AI-generated 0 thumbs out of 5.”

TikTok commenters, none of whom doubted they were watching some AI-model nonsense, were equally disappointed.

“This mixture is too liquid to make anything. Is there an ingredient missing?” One wrote.

one more posted a photo In his attempt to follow the recipe, Joe looked like a molten blob. “Ummmm… this is what my food looked like when I started cooking it,” the user wrote.

Luckily for Mercado, the AI-generated recipe for spicy buffalo chickpea wraps turned out to be pretty good, earning four thumbs out of five.

The catch: “This recipe was definitely stolen from Minimalist Baker, most of the wording of the recipe is the same,” Mercado said.

His luck did not favor him. When Mercado tried a recipe for — get this — “fettuccine with pineapple-cashew cream sauce,” which appeared to be an original AI creation, it was monstrous. “I don’t know why anyone would make this recipe, unless they had copious amounts of soaked cashews and fresh pineapple to use up ASAP,” she quipped.

While it’s an entertaining experiment, Mercado’s unnecessary act of self-flagellation underscores how AI carelessness can seep into our real lives. Millions of people are taking the words of these hallucinogenic machines as gospel. Bad actors use them to create fake videos to create political outrage. If the adage “you are what you eat” holds any truth, then it is wise to avoid consuming anything cooked by an AI model.
