Anthropic on Thursday introduced a suite of updates to Skills, a capability that trains the cloud on tasks tailored to the way users work. The update reflects how the market is moving away from the larger language model, and becoming more focused on use cases.

The move to make Agent Skills an open standard follows Anthropic’s success with its Model Context Protocol, an open standard for large language models for communication. The vendor donated MCP to the Linux Foundation earlier this month.

The expansion of Skills for the cloud comes two months after Anthropic introduced Agent Skills, a new method of creating specialized agents using files and folders. “For many business use cases that require human input, you can now actually have an AI model with skills and take that action on your behalf,” said Arun Chandrasekaran, an analyst at Gartner. “It’s giving these models more agentic capabilities so they can take actions on your behalf.”
