I always look at the house prices in your Fantasy House Hunt feature with wry amusement. After all, it is supposed to be fiction. However, last weekend’s selection made my blood boil (Homes for sale in England to inspire artists – in pictures, January 23). In 2024, the Guardian reported that the average income of visual artists had fallen to £12,500, a 40% decline since 2010. Even the most creative accounting wouldn’t convert this into a mortgage for one of the homes displayed.
