LG teased it will show off a new robot for a “zero-labor home” at CES. Now we have a little more details about what to expect. The company says that CLOiD Home Robot Can fetch milk from the fridge, put croissants in the oven, and even do some laundry, including folding and stacking clothes.
CLOiD isn’t the first laundry-folding robot we’ve seen, it’s not even the only one at CES this year — Switchbot’s Onero H1 will also be able to tackle your hamper. The LG seems particularly impressive, at least on paper. While Onero looks like someone stuck some weapons on him Stop & Shop’s MartyCLOID features two fully articulated arms with seven degrees of movement mounted on the torso that can tilt and recline.
Its head looks a lot like its Q9 robot, sans handles, and it will be able to communicate through spoken language and facial expressions. (Making eye contact with an angry robot really is the future.) But another big selling point will be CLOiD’s ability to integrate with your smart home devices. It’s basically a smart home hub hands-off, but its support for ThinQ and ThinQ ON allows it to work especially seamlessly with LG products. (There is no surprise in this.)
Now whether someone actually exists or not Wants Whether they’ll be able to own a robot roaming their home, or whether they’ll be able to afford such a thing, remains to be seen. But LG is clearly hoping we’ll all be yearning for a mechanical butler/maid/chef/personal trainer.
