ZDNET Highlights

  • LG has unveiled its new Micro RGB Evo, a TV featuring Micro-RGB LEDs with next-generation color accuracy.
  • The TV is powered by a robust chipset with AI enhancements, giving the display wide color gamut support and good control over a thousand dimming zones.
  • No release has been given, but it will be available in three sizes.

CES 2026 starts on January 6 and tech brands are already starting to preview their upcoming products. LG is one of the first to unveil its “first flagship RGB TV” – the LG Micro RGB EVO. At the core of the new display are micro-RGB LEDs, which the company says uses “OLED precision to control each… backlight”, delivering exceptional color accuracy.

Achieving this level of performance requires new improved hardware and software working together. Leading the charge is LG’s Dual AI Engine-based Alpha 11 processor Gen 3 SoC (System on a Chip). As you can probably already guess, this chip takes advantage of artificial intelligence to enhance image sharpness while balancing color output, resulting in a more immersive viewing experience.

The hardware also “enables Primary Color Ultra”, allowing LG TVs to fully support three different color gamuts: BT.2020, DCI-P3, and Adobe RGB.

The LG TV competes with Samsung’s own Micro RGB LED TV, which launched at CES 2025.

Complementing the processor is Micro Dimming Ultra, which manages over a thousand dimming zones to produce high levels of contrast. The end result is an image that reveals “intricate details in both dark and bright scenes”. Other notable features of the LG Micro RGB Evo (that we know of at the moment) include Voice ID, Sound Wizard, and AI search tool to help customers find content.

LG has not yet announced pricing or a specific launch date for the Micro RGB Evo TV, but the company has confirmed that it will be available in three screen sizes: 75 inches, 86 inches, and 100 inches.

It’s also worth noting that Samsung beat LG to the punch with its Micro-RGB TVs earlier this year. ZDNET managing reviews editor Kerry Wan saw Samsung’s model in person in August and praised it for its attractive color output and strong contrast. Wan even commented that the TV was good enough to make “OLED sets (look) pale in comparison”.

It’s too early for me to say how LG’s Micro RGB Evo will perform at launch. Still, based on what LG is promising, I think it’s fair to expect something special.
