We are well aware that artificial intelligence (AI) is trending in new products and updates and Samsung has made it the center of attention at its annual Unpacked event. After the announcement of the new lineup of Samsung Galaxy S26 phones, one thing was clear: AI is still Samsung’s biggest bet. The new Galaxy S26, S26 Plus and S26 Ultra feature what Samsung calls the most proactive and adaptive Galaxy AI experience yet.

“We believe AI should be something people can depend on every day, designed to work consistently for everyone without the need for expertise,” said TM Roh, CEO, President and Head of Device Experience Division, Samsung Electronics, during the event.

While AI is central to the S26 series, there are key differences across all the devices. Here’s how each Samsung Galaxy S26 model compares and some ways you can decide which one is right for your needs.

1. You want clearer, more lifelike photos

Apart from the rich selection of image-processing capabilities, the Galaxy S26 Ultra can capture some of the best low-light photos in the series. This flagship phone has a wider camera aperture, which lets more light (and, therefore, more information) into the sensor, capturing clearer detail in low light than its predecessor.

The S26 Ultra is the first Samsung Galaxy device to support Advanced Professional Video (APV), a video codec developed by Samsung for professional capture, making it a great choice for content creators.

Compared to the S26 and S26 Plus, the Galaxy S26 Ultra sports a 200MP wide camera with F1.4, a 50MP ultrawide camera with F1.9, a 50MP telephoto camera with F2.9, and a 12MP front-facing camera with F2.2. While the selfie camera features are similar across the three phones in the Galaxy S26 series, the S26 and S26 Plus sport a 50MP wide camera with an F1.8 aperture, a 12MP ultrawide lens with an F2.2 aperture, and a 10MP telephoto camera with an F2.4 aperture.

2. You want the big phone experience

There are a few differences between the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and the rest of the lineup, but the biggest ones are the size, camera, and S Pen. On top of that, the Ultra model also features Privacy Display, a toggle that essentially makes your display appear to have a privacy screen protector. If you’ve grimaced at the viral videos of people recording strangers’ phone screens, you’ll probably appreciate this feature.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra is not only the biggest phone, but it also has the biggest battery and most efficient performance. Its 5,000 mAh battery can reach 75% in just 30 minutes of charging. It also includes an S Pen, making it easy to take advantage of the full 6.9-inch screen real estate.

1. You want a ‘high-end’ experience at a moderate price

Let’s be totally honest, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus is the best option for a flagship phone. Compared to the S26 Ultra, the Plus model has a 6.7 display, which is only 0.2 inches smaller than the Ultra, and the same screen as the high-end model. Its battery is 4,900mAh, while the Ultra’s battery is only slightly larger at 5,000mAh.

While the S26 Plus doesn’t have a dedicated privacy screen toggle, an S Pen, or a large aperture like the Ultra model, it’s $200 cheaper, and that could be a big deal for some users.

1. You want to save money without missing out on big features

Even though it’s the base model, the S26 is still part of Samsung’s Galaxy flagship series of phones, so you still get a lot of great features. The full Galaxy S26 series will support improved photo editing features, document scanner, Now Nudge, Now Brief, and an advanced circle for Search with Google that will include multi-object detection.

You can choose from Bixby, Gemini, or Perplexity as your S26’s AI agent, and your phone will handle multi-step AI tasks in the background for a more personalized experience.

author’s choice

After comparing all three models, I would personally buy the Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus. It’s the perfect blend of high-end features and affordability, and you still get the new Galaxy AI features that Samsung introduced in Unpacked. While the S26 Plus doesn’t include the S Pen or privacy screen feature, its larger screen real estate, battery, and stronger processing power make it an attractive option.
