X is facing a European Commission investigation over erotic deepfakes generated by its Grok AI chatbot. In announcement ofAs reported, the Commission says it will assess whether X “appropriately assessed and mitigated the risks” associated with Grok’s image-making capabilities in the EU. before this the new York Times.
“Sexual deepfakes of women and children are a violent, unacceptable form of abuse,” Hanna Virkkunen, EU Commission Executive Vice-President for Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, said in a press release. “With this investigation, we will determine whether X fulfilled its legal obligations under the DSA, or whether it treated the rights of European citizens, including women and children, as collateral damage of its service.”
If X is found to be violating the DSA again, it could face a fine of up to 6 percent of its annual global revenue.
