An AI “filmmaker” was brutally mocked after asking his followers for suggestions on what to make.

“I’ll have 30k to make a completely AI movie, what’s the plan?” Filmmaker Ian Durar wrote do. “I hope to have ideas by next week. Guys, what do you want to see? I love sci-fi but this seems obvious for AI.”

Nothing says creativity like crowdsourcing ideas on X, right? Reed Southon, a film concept artist, responded by calling the entire exploration of AI filmmaking “completely nonsensical”.

Southen said, “You have people with 30 thousand dollars who are begging for ideas on the Internet for the next week because they have nothing to say, it’s just slutty for the sake of sluttishness.” angry. “embarrassing situation.”

“Prime example of how the tools don’t make the filmmakers,” echoing Actor Luke Barnett.

Even other AI evangelists were embarrassed.

“That’s the wrong question to ask, stupidly. If you’re going to have 30 thousand to make a movie, you should try to find a script,” scolded Gregory Mandarano, a screenwriter who also describes himself as an AI artist.

By the way, the ideas Durar’s followers came up with were terrifying: a movie about a tavern in “Ogreville” where every monster knows your name; Or “An epic sci-fi goontech adventure starting with big-breasted Elsa and dumptruck Moana.”

AI is considered the future of filmmaking and art. Boosters insist this will democratize and revolutionize it. Whenever someone posts an AI-generated video with deepfake actors, it’s an opportunity for many AI brethren to scoff that Hollywood’s days will soon be numbered.

But if all this is the case, then how come none of these AI “artists” have a single creative molecule in their bodies? Why is every AI video just one? Crackdown on existing storiesmixing celebrities together like a child with her dolls? Why is his influence all on actual artists and not just other bozos typing prompts into text windows who are convinced they’re also the next Stanley Kubrick? And even if someone takes advantage of truly creative AI, any original idea they come up with easily turns into an algorithmic kludge that they didn’t directly create. It is no longer an interesting elaboration of his own ideas, but a vast repository of works reorganized by other human beings.

Nevertheless, Durar is adamant that he is leading a revolution such as the introduction of digital photography into filmmaking.

“All those things became the norm, and so will AI,” he said wrote. “I may be quick but I’m never wrong. Get over it. It’s just a tool.”
