This is today’s edition download, Our weekday newsletter that provides a daily dose of what’s happening in the world of technology.

We are in a new era of AI-powered scams

When ChatGPT was released in late 2022, it demonstrated how easily generative AI could create human-like text. This immediately caught the eye of cyber criminals, who started using LLM to write malicious emails. Since then, they have adopted AI for everything from turbocharged phishing and hyperrealistic deepfakes to automated vulnerability scans.

Many organizations are now struggling to deal with the sheer volume of cyber attacks. AI is making them faster, cheaper, and easier to implement, the problem will only get worse as more cybercriminals adopt these tools – and their capabilities improve. Read the full story on how AI is reshaping cyber crime.

The search for extraterrestrial life is targeting Jupiter’s icy moon Europa

As astronomers have discovered more about Europa over the past few decades, Jupiter’s fourth-largest moon has excited planetary scientists interested in the geophysics of the alien world.

All that water and energy—and hints of the elements needed to form organic molecules—point to an extraordinary possibility. Deep in its ocean, or perhaps in subsurface lakes or beneath icy surface vents, Jupiter’s big, bright moon may harbor life.

To find further evidence, NASA is now searching for signs of alien existence on Europa. Read the full story on the mission.
